What problems do the new CTD have?

I am done with my 99 cTD. It seems to be down at least once a month. After talking to the little lady (she is upset it is always broken), we decided to go look at new Dodge's, Duramax's, and Power Strokes... Now I know, I am a Dodge guy, but I have to appease the little lady. I am going to convince her that the Dodge's are MUCH better, but I have to know the issies that the new Dodge's have.

so my question to you is this: What are the problems that go with the new Dodge's? I know mine has injectior pump problems, and Tranny issues. I hlso go through front wheel bearings like crazy. I want a good SOLID truck that nwill NOT leave me stranded somewhere. I will get a warrantywith this truck.

Also, where is the best place to get a NEW truck? I heard I can get them online for WAY less than at the dealer. Where did you guys go?

Thanks
Dima

Have heard of injector problems if it is not run hard enough but PS and MMO take care of that. I have not had any problems with any of the four CTD trucks that I have owned. From what I have read, those who lift and have big tires have suspension troubles but no first hand knowledge. Buy one and enjoy before the price of fuel gets to something outlandish.

Well if you are trying to keep your lady friend happy don't get a PowerJoke. My friend has a 05 and had a good many problems and it was $46k.
I love my truck and say it is well built by design! ( Very Easy Design).
My truck has 42k on it and with all the bombing and harsh play she comes back for more!
I do know your truck had a vp44 injet pump which are garbage!
New truck has cp3 pump which some have had problems but not large numbers.
Trannys have come a long way with dodge and hold up pretty good for 600lb or more torque.
Dodge also has new axle mfg in the new Dodge and have not heard any problem on forum about them.

Can't Say about Dmax only that it is a ugly duckling and still don't come with solid frontends?

Good Luck with your decision
Just my Two Cents Here!

I'm very disappointed with my 05 ctd. Its the 4th ctd I've owned, and will probably be my last, they are a good value for the price and have a great engine, but the rest of the truck does not measure up.in my opinion. The ride is too rough, the seat is poor,Im tired of the drone and vib at 65 to 75 and there is no fix,if you think there is ask DC.the quarter panel on my white truck is already turned black, the door gaskets have been bad since the truck was 3 weeks old,the serpintine belt shredded at 6k,because the belt tensioner failed, the fuel mileage is poor, the 48re,seems like it will be reliable, but has some shortcomings for towing ,the rubber fenders have air-gaps where they attach to the bed. I know most of my complaints are minor and most people will over-look them to have the cummins engine and the great-looks of the ctd . I believe price being equal, the GMC is ahead of the Ctd and will pull farther ahead with the 06 models. I bought my first Dodge in 1964(polara 2drht $2800.) I use my truck for working, about 80k per year towing,I don't care about how fast it will run or how much HP it can be chipped for.I run bone stock.

I have a 2005 quad dually 6 speed. The only repair that it has required is a leaking steering shock which was noticed as soon as I got it home. My 6 speed is a little notchy for the first couple of minutes of operation, after that it is good. I just changed over to Amsoil MTF.

On the plus side, I love that Cummins, the power is awesome and so is the fuel economy. I get in the range on 18-21 mpg (US) according to the computer, which I don't think is far off. I only have about 5500 miles on my rig. It is a joy to drive.

As this is my first Dodge, I had a p-stroke before, I love my truck. Everytime I think about it, I want to buy my wife one also. I love everything about the truck except cleaning it in the hot weather. I have 9400 on mine and have not have an ounce of troubles yet. Mine is still bone stock excpet for straight pipe and intake, and I have been running powerserivce/mmo mix since new. Can't say anything else, but I wish I could get all my buddies onto the Dodge bandwagon. I am getting sick of all the whistle of the 6.0 no's.

love it

I personally love my CTD. I think the ride is softer than my dad's chevy. And it is quiter inside than the power stroke. The only prob I've had is getting the computer flashed. I say get one and enjoy.

My suggestion is to drive all 3 for half an hour and drive the Cummins last. Then you will see and feel the difference.

Most all the negative posts on here are minor as compared to the 6.0 and Duramax!

What problems do the duramax's have? I will not get a Powerjoke. I like the dodge, but it is still a 1,000,000 mile motor in a 200,000 mile truck. I am still up in the air, but I will go test drive both of them again just to make sure. I may wait for the new mega cab that will be coming out.

Well, I came from a 7.3 Powerstroke that had three pages of warranty work in only 35,000 miles.

Only issue I've had with this truck, is, like Hammajamma, my serpentine belt shredded at 5400 miles, although, unlike Hammajamma, no bad tensioner nor pullies were diagnoses. Other people here have had this problem also.

Agreed that the dually fenders seem pretty cheap with their fit to the bed.

Overall though, I like this truck. Great power, nice interior.

i am assuming you mean above where the tailpipe is... dude, it is a diesel.. they ALL produce soot in the exhaust... answer to this, put an exhaust tip on or wash your truck... the soot is normal, you will get what with all the big 3 truck brands.

Flatty,I agree drive them both, duramax & dodge cummins. My truck is a 2004 model year with the 305/555 motor. My truck has been flawless(25,000 miles) no trips back to the dealer yet for anything.I had a 2002 chevy gasser prior to this truck that left a sour taste with me,at least 15 trips back to the dealer for warranty repairs with 28,000 miles on the OD.A co-worker has a 2003 dura-max with about 60,000 miles on it and really likes it.My take is you can get a lemon in any truck maker. All in all I am very pleased with my Dodge cummins,I would buy another one in a heart beat over the chevy coobie

I had an injector go out @12k and I ran it hard AND used PS/MMO or Stanadyne PF. I was towing a 10k load at the time. Sometimes injectors fail and it is not always related to running it hard or additives. Personally I think the line from DC about not running the truck hard enough is just a blanket line of BS to avoid paying for warranty work.

On the other hand I do love the truck. I also considered the Duramax, but it also had injector problems and it cost more. The other problem I had with the Duramax is that it had an EGR valve and CCV - not a good thing to have on a diesel in my book. This will deposit a lot of crap in the intake.
