If you do a "search", you will find hours of reading on these. Congratulations on the new truck.

Thanks I'm definitely excited about the truck.

I did a search and read for quite a while
but the search pulled up so many threads that were not quite answering my questions.... things like "oil leaks" and "differential problems or failures"

after an hour of reading I didn't feel like had any of my questions actually answered, so I thought I would ask the question directly of the experts.
I'm new enough to diesels that I want to get the right products when I go to NAPA tomorrow to buy all of my supplies.

thanks

Start with the known commodities:

Shell Rotella 15W40 dino oil
ATF+4 for Auto tranny, power steering (WallMart brand is fine)
GL5 for both front and rear diffs, I use Synth 75W85
Remember to grease the front driveshaft if you're 4X4
DOT4 Brake fluid
Go with Baldwin or Donaldson filters

The more info you post on your ride the easier to help

any recommendations on tranny grease for a manual?
and your filter recommendation is that for fuel or oil filter

the truck isn't delivered yet but is a 2003, 2 wheel drive longbed, with a 6speed manual tranny and high out put motor. its got 132,000 miles on it.

But he doesn't have a 5 spd - plus the 5spds call for 75w90. But that would be good to try in the 6 spd. That's the same truck as mine except for 2 less wheels. I've had the best luck with RP synchromax in my 6 spd - better than dodge stuff or amsoil. RP maxgear has been the best in my diff for keeping the wear metal off the magnet and also the best UOAs. I use 85w140 cuz of the heat, here. 75w140 would be fine, elsewhere. I even use RP in the PS pump. Flip a coin for engine oil - use 15w40 diesel rated. I use Schaffer 7000 semi syn in the engine. It's cheaper than full syn and the UOAs are as good as any full syn I've used. A lot of 03s were shipped low on diff lube, the dealers didn't catch it on there new vehicle inspections and dodge got to warranty a bunch of them. I think mine might have been one of them but was caught before it was totally toasted. Mine only had 25k when I got it and the rear ends brgs were all down to less than the minimum preloads. It's stiil doing fine, tho. Mine has been a great truck. One t-stat 28$ and one APPS $169. The 4.10 R&P rocks for towing and I just filled up today... 21.6 mpg (actual), mostly city. The hvac dampers is the only thing wrong with mine right now - a 3rd gen problem. That can wait til winter. Craig

That would be both! BTW, it should read 75W90 on the synth GL5. Not familiar with "tranny grease".

I'd look at adding a remote fuel filter set-up as one of the first orders of business. Somewhere in the forum is the article w/pics that I posted when I fabricated mine. Injectors are VERY expensive for the CR and it doesn't take much to screw 'em up. I think the total cost for the remote set-up was under $125, including both filters and mounts! That's less that 1/3 the cost of a new stock injector
