03-07 5.9l take 3 gal of oil, including the filter. I've been running Mobil-Delvac 15-40 w/ a Cummins 4920070 (formally Fleetguard 16035). I was running synthetic, but since I change it once a month, gets expensive. Valvoline Premium Blue is a good grade of oil also. Filters brands are the Fleetguard I mentioned, a Wix 51607, or NAPA 1607 which is the same filter. Be sure not to run anything FRAM no matter what. Media has been known to come apart an fubars engines, which isn't covered by the warranty. Stick with Wix or Cummins/Fleetguard.

IMO, 10K is to long of an interval particularly on todays new "CJ" blend oils. CI-4+ might be ok, but good luck finding any anymore.

I run DELO 15w-40 with Fleetguard filter change every 5000 miles. Pick a brand, i.e. DELO, DELVAC, Valvoline, Pennz, etc. use a good filter fleetguard preferred and move on with life...

I like rotella oil and fleetguard stratapore filters. One note on filters, some have smooth bottoms, some have fluted bottoms. I break the second commandment far less when I use the fluted bottom. Much easier to put a Filter cap wrench on the old filter than using a strap wrench.

I run Rotella 15/40 that I had left over from owning a semi truck. (Still have enough for about 3 years) I use either Wicks filters or Fleetguard if I remember to order them from Genos Garage before I need to change it. I change my oil every 5000 and the fuel filter every 10,000 miles.

If you are going to use a bypass filter and do oil analysis, it is worth going to synthetic oil. I use Amsoil HD 5W-30 S3000 with their BK-21 bypass filter. If you do your oil analysis every 10,000 miles (about $20) you can run your oil untill the analysis shows you need to change it (that can be a long time if your engine is in good shape).

i put in 3gals of rottela t 15/40, napa/wix oil filter, and changed out the fuel filter, which was completely black, with a new napa/wix one, runs a little better now i think. the filter was completely gummed up and pure black(like the valve cover black). only 84 bucks for it all.

I use rotella 15-40, no wait...its Mobil delvac,,,,no its-Castrol 15-40, I think---no!! Its Amsoil (maybe) Its Lucas 15-40 - wait a minute I know - its Lucas 15-40 synthetic.

Actuly Ive used everyone of the above oils in my last 4 trucks with an accumalated 911,000 miles with no oil related failures.
