Re:What Are the "MUSTS" That I Need For the New Truck??

Why does every say to get mud flaps? The picture below is basically my truck....only I've got a chrome factory bug shield on the hood and mine is "graphite" colored instead of black. This truck would look kind of funny with mud flaps... ???

The only thing I've had put on here so far is a Class IV hitch...only the goofball dealer installed a Class III instead so I have to take it back and make him change it out. Why would I want a Class III on a 1 ton...especially considering the step bumper is considered Class III. I don't know what they were thinking... : **UPDATE** Dealer just called me and told me that Mopar doesn't make a Class IV hitch...but they're checking to see if they can have one installed for me somewhere else. :

You want mud flaps to prevent rock dings. If you PM me with an email I can send you a picture of what a graphite SRW looks like with the mopar molded mud flaps. It doesnt look funny.

Hoss, the mudfalps really help the underpanels to stay clean and ding free. An EBrake is quite helpful if towing or running hilly or mountainous terrain. The spray-in bedliners are good protection long-term. Most pick-ups are made with ahuling stuff in the bed in mind, so the paint inside the bed isn't really very thick, and the spray-in liners will last and protect the metal much better than the original paint. Guages, particularly the pyrometer, are pretty much a must if towing very much. Just my .02.

Hoss:

Doesn't sound like your dealer knows his hitches, Dodge has a frame mounted Class IV Hitch which is part of the tow package, for gross trailer weights up to 10,000#. (See Owner's Manual pages 236, 237.)

Sounds like sold you a truck without the tow package. Shame on your Dealer, Don't know what he was thinking.. Mopar/Dodge Class IV Tow package is $304 cost to dealer, a bargain. ($345 list includes Class IV hitch and wiring harness installed.) Most dealers order this on all SLTs and Laramies.

Re:What Are the "MUSTS" That I Need For the New Truck??

Yeah...but I'm not that patient. It's also been my experience that I can usually get a better deal if I find a truck off the lot.

Update on the hitch: Went back in yesterday and was told that the Class III they put on my truck (which simply bolted to the bottom side of the step bumper) was the "beefiest" hitch they had. I told them that almost every other truck on their lot had a Class IV on it according to the window stickers (also showed him the page in the owner's manual talking about the availabe Class IV). They kept telling me that a Class IV didn't exist for these trucks. Finally I went out to a dually on their lot, crawled up under the truck and pulled the part number off of the hitch and took it back in to them. It was like magic after that. "Ohhhh.....THAT'S what you wanted." : SUPPOSEDLY the right hitch will be here today...although I have a funny feeling that it won't be the right one. They mumbled something about the Class IV would just bolt to the bumper too...only it was thicker metal. I think not. : So far I'm not impressed with Dodge... :

Hoss,
The better deals off the lot are seldom equipped the way you want them. They either have expensive options you don't want, not worth the money, or they lack options that you want and the after delivery version is not exactly the same, maybe lacks an important feature you need.

I have a dealer who sells to me at Invoice + $75. But, I've always been able to find a truck on the lot that fit my needs and had what I wanted on it. I'm not opposed to ordering....I just never have. Don't really even know HOW to be honest with you. But...the sticker on my truck was $35,910 and after the rebate and negotiations I paid $30,410. Probably could have done better somehow or somewhere, but I felt like that was a fair price for both them and me for the truck I got. According to Edmonds.com that was probably somewhere right around the invoice price.

Carnage, i don't think many of us do like mudflaps, we just put them on because we don't like huge rock chips on the rocker panels or rear quarterpanels.. :'( They don't look too bad either..
