What IF.....re: NO BOOST (how would idle be???)

I am curious as to how the engine would run if it had 0 boost. Here is why I ask.

I rebuilt my engine and am close to completing the project. I am in the process of doing an intake and some other minor things before I put it all together again.
Here is my dilema...
I start the truck and it seems to run fine, however it blows smoke out the draft tube and the exhaust smells terrible. I only have run it for about 2 minutes at a time. Also notice that at a low idle, it seems to run just a bit choppy. Not bad enough for any one else to notice, but I notice.

I will add that I have not installed the intercooler yet, so I am hoping that THIS is the reason. Also as I type this, I realize that my filter housing is not hooked up, so my sensor is getting a false reading.

After all is hooked up, I should get NO smoke out the draft tube correct ????

Well during idle, the Turbo is not spinning fast enough to create more PSI than the normal 14.7 (or less) atmospheric pressure correct? Sure the turbo is moving the air, in which the engine is "engulfing" it. But there really shouldn't be that drastic of air pressure change from No Turbo and Idling to Turbo and Idling, is there?

Turbo is coasting when the motor is idleing.
The smoke from the draft tube is from incomplete ring seal. or crankcase pressure.
Chopppy idle can be a injector leaking, head gasket issue, valve issue or a broken ring.

Put the rest of the parts on, test it and report back.

Turbo hooked up. Idle seems smooth. Still light grey smoke out exhaust and draft tube.

Is this normal for an engine after a rebuild ? I assume the rings just need to break in ??? I hope.

Other than that, all seems well. I still have to run my cold air ducting and some other minor things like hook up the a/c condensor and replace the filter on top of the engine and hook the stacks back up. (flex pipe = rusted out junk) SS this time.

How many miles were on the engine? What was the reason for the rebuild? Reuse a majority of the old parts?

Long story short.... Oil filter was loose. I didn't know it. Co worker wanted to race. We were runnin close to 100 mph for about 5 miles. I get off the highway to hear a knock knock. Add oil to full mark. 1.5 GALLONS !!! Drive home, low again, look under and see the oil floing down the loose filter.

Tear engine down. #6 cylinder had scuffed wall. Lucky me it honed out.
Honed all 6, 1 new piston, all new rings, new main bearings since they fell out and lost correct order.

All and all the engine was in great shape. Barely any wear at all, The rings were still good and the engine has 205,000 on it 75,000 of that with the quad box on 60hp sometimes 100 hp.
