I used to have a Dakota QC (loved that truck). I installed Rancho RS5000 at about 20K miles. Made a huge improvement in ride and handeling. And they were still in good shape at 100K+ miles.

My Ram has about 26K miles, and I would expect to change shocks soon. Are the RS5000's as good on the ram as they are on lighter/smaller trucks? They're still under $50 each. NAPA sometimes has a good sale on them, too.

Have never tried the Bilsteins, but I currently run the Rancho RS9000's. Truck rides great, even with the 35' mudders I got on there.

Ran Rancho 9000s on my Chevy 4x4. They were shot in about a year, and would no longer adjust.

Ive been through lots of shocks on different rigs.
Rancho 5000's - SUCK, very stiff
RS 9000's - just above the suck level., fade quickly
Pro Comp- SUCK, including reservoir style, fade very quickly
Heckthorn-SUCK might as well hardmount the suspension
FOA reservoir style shocks, VERY NICE, way cheaper than fox, bilstein, etc for a very equal ride. Run these on my rock crawler, want them for my 2500

CAGE offroad shocks on a superduty and now 2500. I would say on par with bilstein 5100's, for 1/2 the cost. cageoffroad.com
