What Fixed Your Long Crank/Hard Start Problems???

Just curious, I see alot of older 3rd Gens starting to get what seem to be some age related injector problems now that its turning colder and these trucks are putting some miles on the odometer. Just as it was a couple years ago around this same time with cp3's going out and those people having the same issues with hard starts/long cranking, I'm sure there are others out there who are curious to see what the root problems might be.

Don't know when you had your truck to the dealer last, but an ECM update for our '03's earlier this year is supposed to help out with those long crank times. I've had the update installed, though I can't say as it made any difference. I haven't had that problem yet.

How much would they charge for trucks that are out of warranty I wonder. Mine however is a definate mechanical problem, though I might try anything if its free!!! Whether or not it fixes the problem.

at least 6 seconds, longer for sure in the morning, sometimes 50% not at all without a boost from a charger to get the rpm to 200 , then it will fire. replaced rail press. sensor, fca,and crank sensor. removed and cleaned all other sensors, and blocked relief valve. new in tank fuel pump with guage 12+ press. new filter with treatments. airfilter AFE serviced, freash tank of #2 with pleanty of power service and 2 stroke.new batteries, cleared codes and check engine light is now staying off, what have i missed whats left besides injectors. the biggest seen change in all these parts was the relief valve blocked as it was leaking by really bad, but it really just runs better , not so much diff. in starting.

Well interestingly enough I found on my 06 that the Smarty seems to make the hardstarting condition on my rig. I pulled off all my mods and went stock for a week, no hardstarting issues at all. Then I got sick of the no-power and loaded up the Smarty and the hard starts came right back. Maybe the smarty program changes something in the injector.

I hold the key longer. Works every time with no need for a dealer.

if it aint right , it anit right if you go 59,500 miles and it cranks within 2-3 sec. no matter the temp. 11 deg. or 111 deg. and all of a sudden it goes to this its a mech. issue somewhere, thats all im saying, just wished we could find it for sure.

Dang Streetsmoker. You dont think it could have anything to do with the 5 billion miles of running a pressure box or pressure boxes stacked do you?

If I had to guess in your case I would be lookin at an injector with internal issues in the body or the CP3. Heck, you're still on the stock CP3 so its time to upgrade anyway! Im thinkin duals!!!!

Actually, I lied a little. When I think back to earlier this year, I was having some hard starting, but only when it was cold out. I think it's a TSB, but't don't know if they'll charge you or not. Never went in for a TSB out of warranty. It's starting to get colder out here now. I can prolly let you know in a few weeks if the ECM update will fix the problem. My truck is in storage right now. I'll be getting it out 2 weeks from now.

Hey, I'm not mad or frustrated at all. This all started the afternoon of Oct. 23rd, and I'm just trying to figure it all out before I commit alot of money. I've got many miles and use out of the original stock components as they are!!!!! (you also forget the injector bodies are still original?) And believe you me, if it's the case of needing new injectors, I'll be getting a single stage2 CP3 and all new injectors with my 70hp DDP tips being reused. Then keep any good one's as spares. But you know I got rid of the BDPP that adds pressure over a year ago. The Diablo does't add none, and rarely run the Edge on any level besides 0 except at the track.

I had mine flashed. There is a TSB for the 06s. I've also noticed that 2-stroke seems to help. If your truck is under 8/80 any sort of ecm flashes or updates should be covered under warranty.
