Gypsyman,

You keep beating me to the punch! PLEASE keep me informed about you results with the B1-04. I am on the verge of doing this as well to cool my soon to be pressure stack with the VA CP3.2. I guess then I will find out what this tranny can hold...

I just received a pdf file from TST and it mentions fittings for the wastegate.

Bigger issue is one of turbo life. You may be overspeeding the turbo at very high boost pressures (I don't have a map or I could tell you) , and it's even worse at altitude - 3%/1000' increase in turbo speed.

Turbo is accumulating fatigue everytime it is ramped up, and more fatigue with higher turbo speeds. I'd expect the compressor wheel to give up the ghost and break into 2-3 pieces (hub burst) at somepoint in your journey
I wouldn't think going from a max of 35 psi to 42 psi would matter that much. Granted, the 35 drops to high 20's and the 42 holds fairly well. Something needs to be done to lower egts. I miss my 97 12 valve

A diesel, by design, is a lean burn (excess air) engine since it has no throttle - it operates on the lean side of stoichiometric. Unless it is overfueled, it always should have excess air throughout its operating range. Therefore, in a diesel, more air = lower EGTs. More fuel = higher EGTs.

Question

1Tony1

What EGT's are you seeing, and are they measured ahead of the turbo? Anything below 1300F ahead of the turbo is OK, over 1375 is uncharted territory for turbo life. Remember TIT (turbine inlet temperature) will increase with altitude.

Cummins/Dodge testing is carried out at 12K feet altitude at full load (hard to do) to ensure the truck package is in the box relative to tubo speed and TIT.

If you had a way to measure turbo speed, I could comment vs. design max speeds. Magnitized impeller nut or blade counting are two feasible methods.

With the ez set on the bottom position I could easily put it over 1400 towing up hill if not for throttle control. I was holding (with throttle) at 1350 with a relief down to 1200-1250 every little bit via throttle postion. I am seeing 50 to 100 less egt now running through the gears with the higher boost.

For some reason, on the toughest hills the boost would drop down to 26 and hold there....... if it would stay up around 30/32 where it should be, that would help the egt's. That is why I decided to try clamping the line. I have not had a chance to tow this way yet. Maybe an in cab bleed adjustable valve is what I need. A boost controller would be nice, but I don't want to spend the $$$
