One more thing. It only makes the noise under load like when I'm driving the truck. Sitting in the driveway and revving the engine to 3000 rpms doesn't produce the sound but driving along at 35mph does... It almost makes me think it's got something to do with the turbo since that also won't make any boost just sitting there in the driveway but does once you start driving... The turbo makes plenty of boost though. Well, I say plenty. It makes about 31psi with no box or with the box on the lower settings. It makes just over 35psi with the box on high.....
Hmmm........

I think it is from the Quad Box, or at least what you are describing sounds exactly like mine did when I installed the race module. The higher the level (or load) the more ticking it makes. I thought someone said it was timing rattle, but I dunno. If it is injector deposit then maybe I should be running the mix again, I haven't used it in a while.

It's definitely not timing rattle. I am very familiar with that sound. I also turned the box off and the noise is still there.....

My 06 ticks a little, but only does it after the first start in the morning. When I first start it, nothing, but after 15 seconds it starts ticking and will do so for about a minute. Towards the end of the minute the tick will come and go until it doesn't tick anymore. I would like to have it checked but it gets over 20 cruising at 70 and runs like a scalded ape, so I don't think I will have the dealership mess with it. Does anyone elses do this?

My '04 ticks and it's been ticking for some time. What's odd is that sometime, no tick, then an hour later the ticking comes back. I'm guessing I've got carbon on my injector tips.

You're a little low on boost if you only get 35 psi with the box on high. I get 39 psi with my quad box on the 60 hp setting.

My 03 only ticks after it's warmed up and at idle. When it's cold it's quiet. I pulled our 5ver to Miami and back, about 800 miles total, and it still ticks. Otherwise the truck runs fine. Is this anything to worry about??

Had the same problem for weeks in the 04.5, ticking at all engine speeds/louder under a load, sounds like a valve or injector or exgaust leak to me. The sound was definently coming from the pass side. Started after pulling a 20,000lb fiver toy box out of the desert with heavy head winds.

Anyway, long story short, it turned out to be the exgaust manifold on cyl#5 broke the stud and cracked the manifold. The dealer found the problem and fixed it under warrenty with 98,000mi on the truck. They said it was from high EGT's.....duhhh!!!

Just thought this might help because I probably looked for an exhaust leak on that truck for hours and could not find it, but i guess I'm not very smart...

If your exgaust is good I guess the next step would be to send in a oil and coolant sample to check for a blown HG. Good Luck!!!!

Check the last three exhaust manifold nuts. I had one almost fall off a couple years ago. There were two others that were loose.

I'm gonna do that. I did have to pull the manifold halfway off to install the turbo...
