Water pump life??
Thanks for all the replies, and they support what I already thought....it's a crap shoot as to when one will go. Since I'm replacing the belt, I think I'll go ahead and replace the pump and the thermostat, and toss the used ones in the tool box for spares.

i have had three of these trucks and have always replaced the waterpump and thermostat at 100,000 just as a maintinance item, have never had one fail.
Have always been able to find genuine cummins pumps on ebay for less that 50 bucks, have two spares on the shelf right now!!

Mine went at 105,000 around 10 o'clock at night 2100 miles from home pulling a 35 foot camper. It was 12 degrees outside. I drove it another 100 miles to a repair shop and waited til morning. Never got hot, continued pulling at 65 m.p.h. and almost no antifreeze.
I had my truck at the dealer Wednesday for a serpentine belt replacement. We have a big trip coming up with the 5th wheel and the belt was fraying along one edge and I had noticed it sqeuking on first start in the mornings. They called me and said the water pump bearings were going out and it needed to be replaced (truck has 94k on it). As I assumed the position on the phone the service guy said we can get this covered under your engine warranty for a $100 deductable. I felt like I had won the lottery and told them I appreciated that. So they replaced the water pump, antifreeze and the serpentine belt for $100.
