Water Pump Again.....

Well sad to say Autozone water pump was a waste of money on my part. The factory water pump went out on a hunting trip. No warning no leaking the bearing failed and lost about a gallon of coolant before I could shut it down (about 2 miles). All that was available was Autozone. They claimed lifetime warranty. Well noticed a leak a few weeks ago (truck sits alot). This weekend traced it to the weep hole spewing out. I had less than 20K on this pump. Decieded to not take them up on thier warrenty. Went to NAPA. They sold me a new pump not a reubild. Weep hole in a different location but actually an improvement as should be easier to see it leaking instead of hidden location on the factory and AZ one. Hopeing I don't have to experience that any time soon.

Anyone delt with the NAPA one? Its installed and no leaks!!!! Took me exactly 1hr and 20 minutes from the time I started to drain the radiator. I am not fast either. I take my time and can never seem to find the wrench I need.

I just changed a water pump out just before christmas. I used a Car Quest brand. So far it's working fine. I did a complete rad flush and toped it up, with GLOBAL Ant freeze coolant. It requires a 50% mix with distilled water. It works fine in the 5.9. Make sure that the over flow container gets the appropriate amount of coolant fill-up as well.

I replaced mine with the NAPA pump about 8k ago, so far so good...hardest part if it was bleeding the air out of the system

Just pull the heater hose off of the nipple on the back of the block and fill the rad. When you can see coolant coming out of the nipple you are good to go....replace heater hose and all is well......HTH

I've tried to believe in NAPA but even their new pumps burn me and I don't really care if they have a lifetime warranty - it's simply a hassle to be swapping something that should live much longer. I spoke with a shop that does only water pumps for classic cars to find out what they knew regarding parts for these pumps as I used to rebuild water pumps for farm equipment when I worked in a shop in the 70's. What I understand is that most parts come from China and the weak link in those parts are the seals, once the seal goes it's over. They found good seals made by John Crane to be the most reliable. I'm considering finding a used pump from an engine and getting good parts put back into it as a spare. Too much junk coming from China and I really don't know what we do about it. I just had to pitch a pair of Ujoints that came from Spicer made in China.

You have to understand the way China does business. They could care less about you as a repeat customer. Just get the order, make the product and ship it is their philosophy. The cheapest way is the best way!! Since they are not interested in repeat business their quality is very poor. This applies to nearly everything with the "Made in China" logo.

Never had very good luck with aftermarket water pumps generally. I consider them a last resort. I just haven't seen the quality in them. Having said that, new aftermarket is still far better than rebuilt.

My OEM pump lasted 81,000 miles. I replaced the warranty pump with a Napa this past weekend at 152,280 miles. No big failure on the warranty pump, just started dripping.

I think the china aspect has a lot to do with it. My 99 with 325K plus is the factory original. Seems like part made after 2001 suck when it comes to smaller parts.

My stocker was made in England. I decided to swap it out as my hoses, thermostat were seven yrs old. New pump reads China. My friend's '05 stock pump failed @ 70K on his '05. I think there's a market out there for better pumps that advertise "tested to 200K with normal fluid changes" I'd pay another $75 to avoid re-installing a component.

It's interesting that people are still blaming "china" for these types of problems, instead of putting the blame squarely on the US suppliers (NAPA, Autozone) for using inferior manufacturers. China can and does manufacturer some high quality stuff, just like anywhere. They just happen to also host manufacturers that happily make all the junk you want.

At any rate, if you're wanting to buy a quality made replacement part, it doesn't hurt to use an Genuine Cummins part.

Rant over.

It does not matter who makes it or what after awhile they all go the same way if you can build it cheaper to make a buck or they get overwhelmed on orders its sourced out at a cheaper cost hence junk and consumer beware!!!!!!!!!!1

The shop I use told me a customer came in with a Cummins OEM pump stamped China. It's the seals that are going out,not the bearings they say.
