W/P took a dump.

Well, Wednesday was fun. On the way to work the truck started running a little hotter than normal, about 205-210. I tryed to let it cool down in the parking lot, but nothing. As soon as I shut it off, I could hear lots of water coming out. I popped the hood and took a look. All the coolant was pouring out from around the bottom of the water pump, not from the shaft or a hose. The truck never overheated so I just came on in to work and started checking out all the DTR info on the W/P. I love this site. I called the local O'Reilly's and they had a pump on hand.

The next morning I bought the pump and 3gals of Zerox G-05. Cost about $80, half as much as a Mopar pump. When I went to install it I noticed that the new pump is a little different than the factory one. It has a shrowd around the impellers, in a cone shape. The old W/P looks like it failed around the casting at the bottom of the pump. The shaft fells fine and the gasket is still intacked. I'll post some pics of the new and old pumps.

New pump is working just fine. The truck has 120k on it.

How often do you change your anti freeze? Do you use distilled water on your refill?

This is the first time changing the coolant. It's suppost to be good for 5yr/150k. I used tap water. After reading several posts, I found that city tap water is just fine.

Call me old school, but I still change mine every two years and use distilled water. Been doing that for forty years and have never had a problem.

The picture you have circled is the weep hole. It needs to be cleaned every once in a while.
