I had the same problem as elirandolph the other day on a 1300 mile trip back from Vegas. Lucky I got home. I would check it soon, mine did exactly what you are describing. Now I have to replace my flexplate and while at it upgrade my converter because it broke off 3 bolts in it. Hope this helps.
