Vibration at 55 mph when in overdrive

I just started feeling a low frequency vibration at about 55 mph and higher with the overdive engaged. Vibration is more noticeable the higher the speed

If I use the tow/haul switch to prevent the overdrive from engaging, although the engine is revving higher at that speed, there is no vibration.

I've scanned a bunch of threads, but have not found something similar.

any thoughts?

If its more like shuttering, then i would say it's the TC going.. And if it is don't keep driving it cause you'll fill/clog your ATF cooler with TC clutch material and is a PITA to get all flushed out.. TC Clutch material looks like coffee grounds in the ATF..

Edited: If its the TC you will feel a shuttering/vibration when accelerating after the TC locks up.. If you let off the accelerator it should stop shuttering..

If it's a drive train issue, then it would vibrate regardless of the TC locked or not..

Start with the simple stuff. drop the rear drive shaft and check the u-joints. When was the last time wheels were balanced or rotated. Also check your front drive shaft joints. Even check your ball joints. Its a starting point.

if u-joints check out good, look at the harmonic balancer, it has 2 alignment marks if they are off by more than 1.5mm it requires replacing...mine has shifted

mine does the same, have not yet replace the HB, there is a thread around somewhere that explains it, and it appears worse when the OD is locked up, transmits the vibration thru the truck, I feel mine mostly in the floor/throttle and steering wheel, not bad just annoying, worse around the 2000rpm range, will post results once the HB is changed

Thanks for the replies. Within a matter of 2 days it went from a vibration at 55+ mph with OD to vibrating at 40 without OD engaged.

I had to take it to a dealer and they diagnosed it as the rear u-joints. However they said Dodge only sells a driveshaft/U-joint assembly for around $500!

I went ahead and had them do the repair due to need to get back on the road ASAP. Did I get screwed? It feels like I did
