Used Truck Pricing

I have been looking at used trucks for a while now and I'm completely baffled regarding pricing of these. I understand that Cummins trucks hold their value well - but trying to determine a fair price for a used truck is like throwing darts.

Some owners are asking more for a used truck than I can get a comparable new '05 for.

Whats a fair price for an '04 with under 50k miles? I'm looking primarily at SLT grade interior packages, 4x4, short bed, auto... that's it. No leather, no fancy radio, etc.

I am trying to figure out what a fair price is... but honestly it may just make more sense to buy a new one. Thoughts?

If anyone can help me please email me (jimswantko@hotmail.com) and I'll go over some specifics and maybe you can help me determine a fair offer on some of these trucks.

Signed -

I would think anything from $25K to $30K would be reasonable for that kind of rig. I paid $25K for my 03 ST with 28000 miles on it. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I'd agree. Somewhere around $25-$28k. Dealer here had a used 03 in early 04 w/ 36k miles and I could have bought it for $28k.

I went thru the same thing recently. I think the reason the used truck prices are high are because of a lot of options. Some you'd like, some you don't care about. I ended up buying an 05 off the lot for a great deal but it didn't have the limited slip diff, skid plates and hitch. That's why it was cheap. I will eventually add diff control of some sort and skid plates. The hitch I didn't want but now I'm thinking I'd like one.
