Exh Brake Pricing, I could do better.
I have heard reports of the new exh brake (Cummins P/N 4089427 and Mopar P/N 82208277) being retailed at $1325 :'( or so. My local 5* says they can't order it yet, but working in the heavy truck industry I checked around and I can get them for $1135 US ;D (not including 7%sales tax) plus shipping from me to you. I don't have the weight on the kit, so I can't quote the shipping charges. (My ZIP is 27409 for shipping rates if you have the weight.) I thought this might help some of you guys whose dealer won't cut you a deal. If anyone is interested let me know, just PM me or email me @ brian.neaves@volvo.com I don't know when you would get it, but it could save you a hundred $ or so. I am working with another contact to get a better price but right now he is losing by $54.

Why not go for a US Gear exhaust brake mounted after the muffler for $1000? Then you don't have to worry about the restriction and extra heat right next to your turbo.

Re:Exh Brake Pricing, I could do better.
The further back in the exhaust system placement of the brake creates 2 problems or concerns really. #1 with more opportunitys for leaks and more area to build back rpessure in it becomes less effective. And #2 the extra area from engine to exh brake placement creates a lag or pause in braking effect when applied. This is why I myself and why I figure most people choose the turbo mounted brake. Sure it will increase exh temps some but only while in use for long periods of time. And when it is in use you are not building heat in the engine with a common rail(unit injector) like you would with the mechanical. The reason no heat is built is there is absolutely no fuel being injected to the cylinders.
Brian
Volvo Trucks North America
Technical Support Specialist

On my 03 Chevy C-4500 with the Dmax the exhaust brake is located right in front of the muffler pretty far back in the exhaust. When ever you kick it on you can hear exhaust leaks coming from everywhere. It works ok now but down the road, yikes
