US GEAR vs. GEAR VENDORS

Ok,

I know this has been discussed, but I can't seem to type in the correct string in the search box to find what i'm looking for.

Pro's and Con's on each, I know i've read and talked to several people with the GV overdrive but I have yet to hear from anyone with a US G overdrive. Anyone our there?

What's ya'lls opinions on each, my 6spd is suffering on the highway keeping up with traffic

thanks for the info.

Well I guess due to all of the responses, nobody is interested in this topic. Well here is a message i got from US GEAR:

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your message about the Dual Range Auxiliary Transmission. We
do not have a unit for the G56, and as far as I know, there are no plans to
develop any more Dual Range applications.

Thanks for your inquiry,
Tom - US Gear RV Customer Service

So I looks like if you have a G56 and what a gear spliter/overdrive, you'll have to go with a Gear Vendors...

US Gear For 2005

I've been put off by the high prices for OD units so I've been eyeing several places looking for a used OD for my manual 4X4. I spotted a used US Gear Dual Range that came off a Chevy 1 ton 2WD and asked the company what I would need and this is the email exchange:

Question:

I'm looking at a used US Gear Dual range. I'd like to put it in
a 2005 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Diesel 4x4 6-sp manual with a short bed. What
adapter will I need to attach it to the transfer case?

Response:

Thank you for your message about the Dual Range Auxiliary Transmission. 2WD Dual Range gearboxes are different that 4WD. This would require a new
tailhousing and output shaft at a minimum to effect this change. The output
would be $270.00, and a 4x4 tailhousing about $490.00. For more
information, or to place an order, give customer service a call at
1-800-874-3271.

Thanks for your inquiry,
Tom - US Gear RV Customer Service

Sounds like they still have parts to support the use.

I have had both, although not in the same truck. I had a US gear in my Ford 4 door dually w/6.9 diesel, banks turbo, C-6. I had a Gear Vendors in a 1985 Suburban 4x4 w/an implanted cummins 12v and a TH400. In my opinion, the Gear Vendors was MUCH better. If I were to purchase one for my current truck I wouldn't even look at the US Gear. Even if the GearVendors costs more, it's worth it..........in my opinion!

Your suburban sounds pretty sweet, that's what I want to do with my 77 chevy. Do you have any pics?
