u joints

I just had u joints fail in my 04 at 50000. Have others had similar experiences? How common are u joint failures on that model?

My driver's side is clicking at 63.5K miles. Haven't got around to have them replaced (will do both sides at same time) yet.

How do you know for sure when you need them? I have 118K on my originals. I keep expecting something to happen or tell me it's time. Im sure I am on borrowed time with them.

I did the front driveshaft @ 32k, axle joints @ 36k, rear driveshaft @ 45k I think it depends on where you live and how much snow and salt you see I also plow.

100k Miles replaced the two on the rear driveshaft as they started to click pretty bad. While getting new frontend work done, got one front axle replaced aswell as it was seized.

Before you replace your rear U joints you might check with a dealer. I think Dodge gets about $80-90 each for the new U joints but my parts guy looked up a new drive shaft including new U joints and new yoke and the price was something like $180-190. This was for a SWB. Front drive shafts were a lot more expensive compared to just buying the U joints.

Are we talking drive shaft u-joints or axle u-joints?
The dealer changed my axle joints at 3 years old, about 55k km on them.
