Question turbo silencer ring?

I've heard of a few guys removing the silencer ring from the turbo, is this something easily done? If so I'd like to receive some info, I would love to hear her sing. I have a 05 610 . Stock turbo is much to quite.

I removed mine and put it back in. It's louder without it, however it also has more of a woosh noise and just sounds different. I like to hear the turbo whislte much more than all the other noise, but to each his own. Try a search there is one link that shows pictures of it. Just a small internal snap ring you have to take out with a small screw driver, and vola the silence ring comes out (ring is just s shaped piece of steel)

Removing the silencer ring does not make much difference in the sound of the turbo, neither does removing the silencer in the intake tubing. I have also cut a big hole in the bottom of the air box and that hasn't helped much either. I'm begining to think the only way to make the turbo noticible is to install a bhaf. Then that leads to an open exhaust to be able to hear the turbo out of the exhaust better. If it ain't one thing it's another.

I removed the ring, the intake baffles, the white plastic guides, and drilled the airbox bottom with numerous small holes. The filter minder doesn't collapse anymore with a new filter and the turbo sings now.

here are a few pictures that will help you see what we are talking about.

silencer ring in front of the turbo

silencer ring and snap ring removed

trubo without the silencer ring

no performance gain whatsoever. just makes the turbo sing louder.

I noticed an increase in noise when I removed the Silencer, Baffles and elbow... but it was even more-so when I installed the intake kit on there.

Also, I haven't heard of anyone really getting a Turbo whine out of their exhaust, at least nothing real noicable like the PowerChokes.

Put one of the air intake with torque tube products on and you will hear the whine without the wooshing.

I have an AFE Torque Tube, but there are 3 or 4 different options out there.
