Turbo/Boost/Waste Gate testing? 2003 5.9
All,
How can I easily test to see if my Turbo if functioning correctly on my '03 2500 5.9/Auto CTD?
Since my ECM & PCM was flashed by the dealer about a year ago with the newest updates and I since replaced all 6 Injectors with rebuilts to cure my no start, my truck has been sluggish and producing approximately 16 mpg.
Is there any way to manually check to see if my turbo if functioning?
I watched the wastegate linkage rod while revving the engine in neutral and did not see if move any. I also slid under the truck and tried to move the linkage with the enigine off and can't move it .... should it move by hand? Or should I remove the C-clip and linkage and try to move the waste gate that way to test?
Can I remove the vaccuum/air line to the wastegate actuator and test the vaccuum? If so what should it read at what RPM?
I do not have a Boost Gauge installed but I do have access to a Snap-On MODIS Scanner, can I monitor Boost Pressure with that?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Yes that modis will give you boost pressure, you have to be careful some of those scanners will give you psia not psig. With Psia 0 is starting at no atmospheric pressure so on earth the gauge will read 14 or what ever atmospheric pressure is, psig is starting at 14 or so, but the gauge will read 0. My matco scanner reads boost in inches of mercury not psi so I have to convert it to psi. So if the scanner shows 14 psi at start up with the engine at idle you will need to subtract that 14 psi from the reading.
