turbo bark, and wheel issues...long day already.
Sorry for the long post in advance. For you guys that are wondering, turbo "bark" or turbo "surge", happens when you are heavy into the throttle building boost and then step off in a hurry, the engine unloads and slows down, no longer taking in all of the air the turbo is forcing into it. This causes the excess pressure in the intake between the turbo and the engine (the whole volume of the intercooler) to depressurize and since the engine isn't using the air, it escapes past the blades of the turbine. This can cause damage but its not nearly as bad on a stock turbo as it is on an aftermarket higher volume higher pressure turbo. Turbo surge will damage the turbo internals if you keep doing it but its not something that happnes after three times and it explodes. So if you are still running your stock turbo it isn't really that big of a deal unless you do it alot. As for the question of the whooshing sound during acceleration, that is the wastegate dumping excess boost. If I remeber correctly, it will try to maintain about 22 psi on the stock turbo. I have a boost fooler on my truck and it will spin to 45 psi and sit there till I let off.
I get it if I mash the throttle and let off too quickly. If the programmer is set a couple of notches higher it will happen everytime if you don't ease off the throttle gently.
Mike
