Tsb 18-004-04

went to get TSB 18-004-04 for the high idle done and the dealer said my truck did'nt have that feature. I was looking at the tsb and it said it was for trucks below a certain serial number and built bfore a certain date. Mine has a higer serial number and was built at a later date. don't all 04's+ have this feature? Should I try another dealer?

I can neither confirm nor deny. I had the reflash done to mine about 9 months or so ago, and when I transferred back home this winter, I noticed a high idle in the cold weather.

I was told that the 6 spds didn't have the high idle feature, but I've heard mine change idle speeds in cold weather....TWICE!!

What you are experiencing is the automatic high idle that bumps up the engine rpm to approximately 1000 - 1200 RPm to warm the engine up at idle.

Manually set Idle Speed:

Try this and let us know how you make out.
1. Start Engine (leave in park)
2. Press Cruise On
3. Press set
4. Accel/coast to manually increase RPM between 800 and 1500 for high idle
Mine worked without going in to dealer so must have come pre-programmed.

Yes, I would suggest you go to a new dealer.

The high idle feature that you can control through the cruise control is only for automatic transmission trucks, not the 6 speeds. (that may have changed for 06 trucks..im not sure) I believe it also only applies to 04.5 on up trucks....not 03 or 04s. Not sure on the last part though.

All of the trucks have a different high idle that bumps up on it's own if it is really chilly outside. I have heard mine do it once when it was about 18-20 degrees. It surprized me because I had driven about 20 miles and was stopped and fueling the truck while it idled. All of the sudden it went up to about 1000 rpms on it's own.

I believe it was for 04's as well. I had mine done and it is a 2004. 2003 can not have it done.

If you read the TSB very carefully, it specificly says it's for automatics only and for '04s only. The date and serial number provided in the TSB is the break point between the '04 and '04.5. The '04.5 and later automatic trucks have this feature available, but it's not done with TSB 18-004-04. The TSB being discussed calls for an ECM reflash (to install the fast idle software) then an enable to actually turn it on. The '04.5 and later trucks have the high idle software onboard from the factory. All that is required from the dealer is the enable. Both versions are for automatics only. Why? Who knows? That's just the way DC decided to do it. As previously mentioned by other posters on this topic, this IS NOT the same high idle feature that kicks in with cold weather. It's the feature controlled by your cruise control buttons.
