Truck stolen, recovered, need rear end....

Truck in sig was stolen, joy rided, found with my newly serviced rear end GONE!!!!!!!!! So, need a 3.73 geared rear end for my truck. Insurance company wants to put a used unit out of a junkyard (guaranteed for 90 days) in my truck. Hoping to find one here on the boards from someone I can trust.

What about the insurance company cashing out the rear end + labor = check for you? Then, you can put in what feels right to you. Granted, you'll have to make up any difference. But, you'll have the peace of mind.

Or, what about negotiating with the insurance co to add a few hundred to rebuild the boneyard diff (interal + brakes)??

Just some thoughts for you!

Tony

Never heard of a insurance company using used parts on a repair.
What Company is it Dewy Screwem & Howe Insurance?
Do not accept and go up the ladder... Good luck.

Have a lien on it with my Credit Union, so they will not make the check out to me, just the body shop, both flares were ripped off, and looks like a fist imprint on my left front fender. I am working real closely with the body shop, and he said if I can locate one of my liking, he will pay for it. If it is mroe then what the insurance company allowed, depending on teh situation, I will make up the difference. I have already saved my $250 deductible with getting 2 new tires from Discount under my road hazard, as two of the tires were in the bed of the truck, blown out. So......

Farmers Insurance. I was told because of the mileage (115K and counting) is the reason.....

You can try this guy www.balsleyautosales.com He rebuilds late model dodge diesel. I bought 2 trucks off him now and he is a great guy. I'm betting he has a decent one for ya. Shipping might cost ya though.

I would request this in writting that they are requiring a used part in a repair of a vechicle, A certified remanufactured, yes, one of unknown origin, I see LIABILITY big time. Time for you to call Dewy Screwem & Howe, they love this stuff... LOL
Don't accept the quick check, is what the local guy touts....

With a 115k is the reason for used.Kinda of standard on high mileage vehicles with any insurance carrier.Old one was USED etc.I'd take a used one, pull the cover, inspect it throughly etc.and use it if it looks ok.Installed MANY a CUSTOMER SUPPLIED used one(Danas) cause the one in the truck had ruined tubes and burned up gears.See not much differance.

Yeah, insurance companies do what is best for them. I wrecked a full sized Bronco and needed a frame, they put in a salvage yard frame and I dumped the Bronco. Lacked $200-$300 from being totaled but by using used parts they kept the costs down and then didn't have to total the rig.

Lots of very low end insurance companys to that. Was explained to me why by a big body shop owner once but darn forgot why.Was told the bigger better rated companys know when to pay off and bailand know better then to get caught up into a repair that way.Thats a bit differant the a high mileage vehicle needing a rear end assey. If his truck had been totaled the insurance company would not be getting him a NEW truck if they were to suppy one. They would find one in good condition with app.same mileage.Would they not.If you or I were running the insurance company I bet we would do the same thing. Not DEFENDING his insurance company but to be its just business and common sence.
