Truck Got Flooded
Truck got flooded last night. Water level was 28" (rim completely submerged and about 1/2 way up the rubber on the tires past the rim on the top side). The ECM mounted to the engine stayed dry, as did all the electronics. Both axles were submerged & beleve that the transfer case & tranny also got submerged. I do not believe that the top of the tank (where the tank vent is) got submerged.
I ran the truck this morning for 15 miles. The truck steamed out the tail pipe for 5 minutes as if I had a blown head gasket, but then was normal. Water in fuel light did not come on. I have to drive 200 miles to get home & plan on changing all fluids this weekend. Is driving this distance going to hurt it? Anything else that I should be concerned about?

I would check the diff, transfer case and tranny fluid before driving back home. To check the transfer case, loosen the lower drain plug and back it out just enough to get some fluid to come out, if you don't see any water then you are good. Look for milky white fluid in you diffs. I you find signs of water then I would recomend fluid changes before you go home, then once again when you get home.

The steam was just your exhaust full of water. I would also change at a minimum the differentials since they have the best chance of getting water at the level you mentioned. If you have time though I would also do the tranny and transfer case.

How about the cab. There is a bunch of electronic gizmos down on the drivers side kickpanel. Might wanna pull those and clean them with electric parts cleaner and dioelectrode grease them.
