Trouble warming in the morning
I've had a complaint since day 1 about my truck not warming up in the morning, or after sitting at night such as leaving from a movie theater.
I plug it in over night, and it does start right up, however the air that comes out of the defrost vents, isn't hot enough to clear the windshield. Even if I ramp it up and idle for 10 minutes, the temp gauge barely moves. I have to drive for 6+ miles before the heater temp goes up. I took it into the dealer, and was told this is normal due to the large cooling system. It's 12* here this morning, does anybody else have this problem???

Get the winter cover and your high idle enabled. In the morning I close my winter cover and set the idle about 1200 rpm. It takes 10-15 minutes but it gets warm enough to defrost the windshield. If your in a hurry keep it plugged in and have a good ice scraper around.
I do plug it in, and have the high idle enabled, I just question if it is normal, and apparently it is. I'm ordering the CWF today.
This isn't dieselville, its cumminsville. This is my 3rd diesel, and first time having a problem.

25 degrees overnight last night, 33 when I started my truck.
Start truck, auto high-idle *1000rpm's*, turn on defrost, turn on mirror heaters, scrape all windows, squeegee all windows. By the time I'm done, I don't have much heat at all, but enough to keep the windows clear. I would think that yours with the additional high idle should be at least as warm as mine?
I'll have to check back to your original post, do you have a block heater cord and have it plugged in?

It takes me a good 7 miles before I get to full temp, starting at 30 degrees. OK, it takes a long time to get up to speed because of the metal mass, but then why does it go back to cold so soon? If I park for 2 hours, I start all over again. In my other three cars, all of them will be up to full temp in one mile after a 2 hour wait.

Not only is there a lot of iron and coolant to warm up, but at idle, there is very little fuel being burned and a lot of air passing through the engine (unlike a gasser). The extra air carries away a lot of the extra heat that might otherwise warm the block.
The heater is only designed to warm the engine enough to make starting easier, not to make the heater work right away.
In the winter, with easy driving, it can take 5 or 10 miles to get things up to temp. Then more time is needed to expel the condensed moisture from the crankcase and oil.
These trucks are not designed to run down to the corner store. Use it when you can really use it.
