Trouble with electronic transfer case

Has anybody had trouble going into 4 low or when it finally does it gets stuck in low? Never had trouble with it going in or out of 4 high! Works great when it goes in without a any mechanical noise. I checked the 2 wire connector on the tranfer case.

You may have to roll a slight bit for the teeth to line up but no, never a problem. I have a clutch to relieve any pressure tho'.

My 03 is nasty to get out of 4 wheel low. Once in a while is nasty to get it into 4 wheel low. I sure wish I did not have the electronic shifter, one more thing to fail.

I was at a campground with the 5th wheel on the truck stuck in the grass trying to back out on a slight grade. Temps were going out the roof just to get it to move & then backing it out in 4 high! Needed the 4 low in a bad way!!

I believe you need to put it in neutral to get it out of low range 4wd... never had any problem getting it in but you may want to try the same - put it in 'N' this would help relieve any stresses off the drive train so it can align gears.

250,000 on my Laramie and still working perfectly. I change the oil in the transfer case once a year. I remove the front driveshaft in the summer so I can back up my travel trailer in 4lo. I often go from 2hi to 4hi at speeds up to 70mph but I have to come to a complete stop and push in the clutch to get it into and out of 4lo. I can hear and feel it shifting and it sounds pretty positive. Mayber your shift motor is getting weak?

I always put it in neutral before I try to go in or out of 4 low.

If/When the shift motor fails, can you remove it and install the manual shifter handle/linkages ?

My 03 has never been a problem and I have dynatac hubs and use 4 low a lot to back up trailers. I love the electric transfer case, at a red light in the winter at a icey intersection I shift into 4 hi and leave it there through 2nd and third then shift it to 2 hi and carry on. A lot of mechanical shifted transfer cases suffer from being left in 2wd on a cold night (-30) then after snowing all night the operator starts the truck and yanks the transfercase shifter and bends the fork or breaks something . The block heater does not warm up the transfercase. I have made this mistake with mine and the shift light will flash for up to a couple of minutes before going into 4wd but it does have more patients than I do and it does not break anything.

I know what you're saying here Firemanram - i had the same problem... till i read the manual. I have a manual trans too so take that into account, but it said to be moving foreward at a slow speed (don't remember the actual number, like less the 8 or 9 mph tho) and put in nuetral and press clutch then switch back to 4h or 2h... works fine every time...

You must be moving and moving very slow. Less then 5 mph and not under load. If you are stuck it is too late to put it in 4 low.
