Trouble codes P0201 & P2146 TIP!!!

First I would like to say thank you to the forum moderators for letting me join, THANK YOU. I would also like to thank the person, unfortunately I didn't catch their forum name, who posted the service bulletin about these two trouble codes, THANK YOU.

I was at a loss about what to do with my problem, engine missing, trouble codes and such with my 2005 RAM3500 dually. I took it to a garage, with no luck, they called me about 6 hours later telling me they couldn't fix it that it was over their head, what kind of garage is that?

Anyways, I was at a loss of where to take it to be repaired, I don't trust the dealers in my area since they closed them all. I was told about this site and I joined to see what I could find out about my problem. Thank you to the person who posted the bulletin, which led me to my problem. The bulletin says to check for frayed wires in the injector bundles. I looked into this lead and found that:

My wires were not frayed, BUT since the wires and electrical plug hook to and pass through the side of the head the rear side of the electrical connector and wiring is exposed to oil. The problem for me was not frayed wires but oil leaking into and through the electrical connector, shorting out the circuit.

I know I was a little long winded but I hope that this will help anyone else with the same problem. If I was unclear of anything please pm me and ask me to clarify.

Welcome to the DTR, sorry that yo have to come here because of a problem.

Did you find where the wires were soaked with oil, or are you just assuming it is internal?

Oil in Connector

Hello Madhat, thank you for the welcome. As for having to come here due to a problem, thats not a big deal, I was just glad to get it fixed so easy and cheap.

I don't know how familiar you are with the 05 cummins, I am new to doing my own work on it. Anyways the number 1&2 injectors, 3&4 injectors and the 5&6 are wired in pairs respectively. The P0201 code pointed me to the #1 cylinder injector and the P2146 code pointed me to a wiring issue.

When I unplugged the electrical connector there was oil inside the connector. When I replaced the wiring pack the problem and the codes went away. I hope this helps with your question.

I have A 05 dodge Cummins 2500 and am experiencing the same issue. Did you replace the wiring connectors that go into the head or the wiring that goes it the ecm? Thanks for the post by the way
