Trip MPG

We just got back from a trip from Seattle WA to Eastern Montana (parents ranch there, helping out with their annual bull sale).
The trip was a total of 2658.6 miles, used 179.909 gallons of fuel, giving an average of 14.782 MPG. This is right in line with what my '03 got, and it also had the Quadzilla stuff on it. I varied which setting the Xzillaraider was on, from 0 to 3, and never saw an appreciable difference (other factors such as wind, and mountains played more of an affect on variation than the setting).
All but about 600 miles of it was on cruise control at 80, 400 of it at 75, and about 100 of it was towing about 18K (cattle trailer).

Just thought I'd share this info - its real world driving hand calculated number averaged over a fairly lengthy trip.

Just got my Smarty tonight, so now the Quads coming out and trying something new. Gotta go play......

Thanks for the information. A year ago last January I did 2400 miles round trip from Lander, Wyoming to Yuma, AZ--plus some side trips along the way and three days city driving in Las Vegas. My hand calculated MPG was 20.4.
I had a lot of interstate driving, but kept my rpm's at 2000 and under. You have provided helpful information because I know if I choose to drive faster, I know what it will cost me.

Wow. So being an engineer, I look at the numbers. You are showing a 60% (or is that 160%) increase in fuel mileage over me. So please forgive me for being extremely skeptical when I see numbers like that. I don’t see or understand how there can be such a significant difference in mileage between two fairly similarly equiped vehicles. That leads me to ask if your odometer has been recalibrated correctly (it was yours that had the bigger tires, right?), and are you positive your math is correct, or are you posting Overhead computer values.

Just my 2 cents.

You aren't getting very good mileage at 80 mph. He mentioned he kept it at 2000 rpm or lower so at most he was doing 70 with a 48re.

Also you were probably only getting about 9 or less when pulling the 18k trailer so that would really pull your overall average weight down.

At least thats the way I see it.

Yeah, that was Sweatwater Guy, but Gus stated in his thread he ran 85. Like you said, under 2K (in my rig) would mean about 70 mph. 70mph, in my experience has typically given MPG numbers around 16.5-17.

I actually think @15 mpg at 80 is decent. I just question numbers that seem out of this world compared to what I percieve as typical real numbers.

I went on a 4000+ mile trip last June from north IA to Eugene OR with a side trip in to Yellowstone Park. When I only had 1150 miles on the truck. I also had about 1,000 lbs total weight in the truck including luggage and passengers. My over all fuel mileage for the trip was 18.5 mpg. Btw I never drove over 72 mph even when the speed limit was 75 mph I just stayed in the right lane and let them go by as I had to pay for the fuel not anyone else.

Same here ,if I keep it at 70 or below I can get upwards of 19 hwy unloaded hand calculated.Run up over 2000 rpm & I lose a couple of MPG easy.

I noticed that I get better mileage when I ease out into traffic instead of stomping the go pedal. I also think it helps that I have a NV5600 and six gears compared to the four most of you have. I not sure if the 2007 have the new six speed auto yet or not.

Also I posted on another thread that showed a TSB discussion that states the overhead computer will caculate milage diffrent on the 06 and newer models compared to the 05 to late 02 models.
