Transmission- Will not shift down into 2/1 on indicator
07 Dodge 4500 5.9 Transmission Issues
Truck was fine on Friday- hauled a trailer loaded with hay. I warmed truck up as usual before I pulled out and had no issues. Sunday I headed out with my horse trailer and barely got out my driveway before the trouble started. Pulled out of my parking place normal, but it never shifted into 2nd when I got on the road. I new I had trouble so I thought I would keep easing forward until I reached a safe place to pull over/stop/turn around about 2 miles down the road. It went for a little while and then quit pulling. I tried moving shifter down to 2 or 1 and it wouldn't move on the indicator. I could feel the shifter moving to those gears though. I put it back into drive and it moved a bit further down the road. A temp light came on and I gave up. Light went off and I got pulled the 1/2 a mile to the store. Called for help getting everything back home.
From Neutral to Reverse it takes a while, but truck goes into gear. It is almost like you can hear a pump or something whining. Same for drive. It will go in but it takes a while (think a minute or two). Truck is stock except for about 2 months ago we changed the governor pressure regulator with a kit from Borg Warner (Sorry if I mis-spelled something). Changed the fluid but did not tighten bands.
If this were your truck- what would you do and where would you start. We thought about buying another kit and tightening the bands this time. What else could it be (praying not a re-build).

Dropped the pan today and fluid is burnt (temp indicator light came on during the last attempt to roll). That is when I gave up and got pulled the last bit off the road. No metal shavings. Some of the fluid does have a silver sheen to it near the magnet, but I read that is somewhat normal. Advice of any sort would be greatly appreciated.
Any ideas?
