Question Transmission question?

My truck is relatively new with only 8500 miles but when shifting in to overdrive sometimes the RPM's will drop a little then go up and drop back down to where they should be (feels like the TC or tranny is slipping). This is not under heavy throttle or anything, just moderate normal driving. It has been doing this since I got it with 7,000 miles. Is the transmission slipping or what? This is not just a towing thing either, it happens empty sometimes but more often with a load. Could someone please help me out, if it is a problem how could I fix it? Thanks in advance guys.

I know a few guys here will slam on me for saying this but.... I believe you need a band adjustment. My truck did the same thing untill the dealer adjusted it and not it doesn't do it anymore...

Dont let them tell you NOT to adjust the bands on a new truck . Its like everything else on a new rig. If done right at the factory ,you may never need the adjustment , but I'd do at least the first one at 30-35k even if working well.

I thought I had a band problem with mine. It was searching for gears mostly between 1st and 2nd. It turns out the pressure regulator and governor needed replacement covered by warranty. If I read my book correctly band adjustment is part of the required transmission service I think the interval is 30K for that not covered under warranty.

A fairly competent mechanic can do band adjustments just fine. Just grab the trusty service manual and get to it. On my 97 it required a "LOW" inch pound torque wrench. I would make for certain the wrench was accurate as well seeing as the bands are set at a very specific (and low) torque setting. It is not a hard thing to do, IIRC on my 47RE one band adjusted from inside, while another was adjusted from the outside.

The one you are having problems with is the outside one. You can adjust it yourself but be careful because if you get it too tight you will take it out. If you search in these forums you will find a topic started about 2 months ago about this and I remember it having the exact torque spec.
