transmission help??

truck info: 04, 4x4, QC, CTD, auto 48re tranny, 150,000 miles, stock

im new to diesel trucks and i am only 18 but i know a little bit about them so any help would be great. the issue im having is when im accelerating doesnt matter if its WOT or barely giving it throttle it wont shift from 2nd into 3rd. you have to completely let off of the gas then it finally shifts everytime. also every once in awhile it will shift up then shift right back down like it cant make up its mind??? and whenever im doing say 60 mph and need to pass someone if u floor it the rpms shoot up to about 3200 and its like its in neutral but, if u let off the throttle like i said before it shifts up and you can be on your way. i dont got any ideas about my problem im guessing it might need the bands adjusting, selenoid needs replacing, or maybe it needs rebuilding? any help would be great thanks!

I would say change the fluid and filter and adjust the bands and if you still have a problem then your in need of a full rebuild.

If you had the bands adjusted and it still does it then it sounds like its time for it to get a rebuilt one from http://www.goerend.com/

Could be an electronic problem. The transmission is controlled by computer.

Nope, OD is th only computer controlled function on that year trans.

When these units encounter shifting issues a good place to start is replacing the gov pressure solenoid and transducer. The described symptoms are a few of what can be encountered.

yeah i dont know what to do really, i get different responses from everyone i took it to the tranny shop and i had a guy test drove it with his computer hooked up and he said it was the throttle position sensor and would cost $550 because u cant replace just the sensor but the entire housing along with it and it has to be from the dodge place. i also had a guy tell me it could be the TCM or the map sensor, i just dont know what to replace im not built on money and i just want to know for sure what the problem is without guessing and replacing stuff

pressure sensor...took five min to change them....will have to change fluid also as you need to drop the pan.....may as well go ahead and change filter.....I was due for change and filter anyway......just my .02 Total cost me about $250.00 but I'm told you can get the solenoid and sensor cheaper....I only found them at the dealer for $220.00

Yikes!!!!!

EACH of those pieces is only $50 anywhere but the dealer. The solenoid fits everything back to 96, the transducer back to 94. Either find a transmission warehouse close or order them online.

Your symptoms are indicative of these 2 pieces. Try them first before dropping major $$.
