Transmission Fluid

Getting ready to change the fluid.
2005 Automatic, Synthetic or not???
Will Synthetic void the warranty?
What brand is everyone using?

Factory fluid is synthetic.

When the time comes, I'll stay with DC...I've heard of too many problems with old style trans going to an aftermarket fluid.

I know there are others that will say different, particularly with recent experience.

Is the factory fluid synthetic?

I thought that I had read some post where peope had changed from the factory installed fluid to synthetic and gained a few MPG.

I only notice ~10-15F cooler trans temps on my F150...no MPG impact. While it's not too relevant to the lockup converters we have, it is information, nonetheless.

The problem people have is that they put in the wrong fluid and this will screw up any tranny. As long as you use ATF-4 you will be OK. I have see some people put in ATF-3 thinking it would be Ok ( bottle said it was ok for dodges) when it is not up to the spec's of ATF-4.

My self I have used Amsoil and had great luck with it. Also Amsoil is the only after market fluid my local dodge dealer does not complain about being use in any DC car or truck and they don't like any thing that is not morpar, so I take that to mean it must be a good tranny fluid.

Came across a few D.C. dealers who also are Amsoil dealers.

I know that Amsoil has several products, which one do you use for the transmission? How much does it take? Does everyone drop the pan, change filter, fill, then disconnect the hose going to the cooler to get the balance out?

Several products? Their Universal Syn Atf is used in most all autos except a few specialty units. I take mine to a shop and use a flush machine.I only change FILTER every 60 to 90k.www.amsoil.com

After you cange the filter and fill the pan, which line do you remove at the radiator to flush the rest out?

There used to be a link on Geno's site about which line, but with the new layout I could not find it.

The rear most cooler line on the transmission is the return. Pretty easy to disconnect it there.

Thanks for all of your help.
Filter changed, return line disconnected and 13 quarts of Vavoline +4 installed. I was told the entire system holds 14 I got most of it.

FYI I call the dealership and they only drop the pan, filter and re-fill, they also told me that they did not use synthetic and that it did not come with synthetic, not sure if they really knew.

I've been using Redline since I hit 20K km on my truck - and I immediately noticed a MPG increase, better shifting and the transmission sounded 'quieter'...

100K later (with lots of 10K towing), no issues.. I've changed the fluid 3 times since 20K (just changed it again) & used the home 'flush' method of dropping the pan, clean it out, fill with new fluid, then remove the return line from the transmission cooler, start the truck in neutral, and have someone pour in new fluid down the dip stick while catching old fluid out the removed return line...
