Transgo SK 48RE shift kit

Has anyone installed the Transgo SK 48RE shift kit?
How complicated was the installation?
I have not been able to find a copy of the installation manual online and would like to see details on hoe complicated it is. Does anyone have an electronic copy that they can send me?

I just got my Transgo kit yesterday.

WOW.

Am I bold enough to put this thing in????

First of all the instructions suck. Just terrible. At least they have pictures.

Secondly, this is pretty involved. They tell you to grind off angles on the valves, drill holes in parts of the body, ream holes and insert plugs.... and it all seems so vague about where to drill, ream and grind.

I'm going to put it in tomorrow, and I'm going to take a bazillion pictures and write up a thread about it - hopefully get a sticky!

Heck if I actually do it I'll have a sticky alright...

We need a step by step with good pictures. If that exists I'd love for someone to point me to it. This looks scary.

I am not sure you could dig it up now, but what I did to mine was use the superior valve body kit and a couple sonnax valves that allowed you to do the kit without drilling any holes except for the separator plate. it might be way back in the files sosmewhere. much better in my opinion than using the transgo. Mine worked like a charm until I destoyed the TQ converter using one of the beta smarty softwares and towning 12,000 through the mountains. lol


I just realized you have a 2006. I don't think you have a TV cable so my method might not of worked anyway.

the main thing is don't get in a hurry.

I drained the trans tonight, pulled the pan and loosened the bolts that hold the VB. At least what I think is the VB.

You'd think they could take the time to tell you how to remove the valve body.

Now I need to find out how to get it out! It's connected to what must be the shifter cable. Somehow that has to come off. At least I loosened the bolts and a lot more fluid is dripping out now.

The cable should be held on by a E-clip (retain clip). Just be careful when removing the clip, it does have a tendancy to fly & go into a black hole. Well atleast in my garage.

Leave the clip on and remove the valve body with the park rod attached. It slides out fairly easily.

Done!

I took pictures, hope I have enough. I have some excellent tips for those who may do a tranny kit. The directions are terrible.

I put in 10 1/2 quarts of fluid and took it out for a drive. Perfect. Shifts right, park, reverse, neutral, it's all good. Shifts into 4th are definitely harder, shifts from park to drive and reverse are now solid. Kicks down just right when I floor it. As far as I can tell it's all good.

Started at 8 this morning, drove it out of the shop at 2pm. Did a 20 mile test drive that included a beer and burger stop, came back and checked the trans level and it's perfect. What are the chances????

Will do a write up after I download pictures.
