Transfer Case Oil Change

Today went to change the ATF fluid after about 60k miles since the last change at 25k and was shocked at what we saw! The old fluid looked and felt just about like the new stuff sitting in the Amsoil jugs next to the lift. What was ugly was the fluid that came out of the transfer case --- pretty dirty and it was the original OEM fluid… For those of you that have not changed it go ahead and do it every time you service the transmission.

Maybe putting the 5qt ATS pan on the week I got the truck was a good idea after all. Changed both diffs replaced with Amsoil as well ---- going to be keeping this one a couple more years as two of my buddies have the new motor and don’t get within 4mpg on the road of mine.

If I recall correctly, the manual for my 03 said to change the transfer case at 15k, and there was a supplemental/correction sheet with it that specified 30k change.

Now this 06 I think says 60k, but it's the same transfer case...

Anyhow, I went ahead and did the G56 and transfer case at like 37k, and what came out of the G looked good, but what came out of the transfer case- not so much...

I didn't think to change the T-case fluid until today. 47k miles. What came out was black, about the consistency of water, and smelled more like weak gear oil than ATF.

2.5 quarts to fill with some nice ATF+4
