Transfer case
Transfer case
Looking for info on the 2003 4WD transfer case. Is the case aluminum or cast iron, chain drive or gear drive? What kind of fuel mileage should I expect w/4WD HO 6 speed Q cab 2500? Are there any problems I should be aware of with the 4WD models?
Re:Transfer case
My last few tanks yielded 17 mpg. Most of the drive time is city driving, but there are highway miles in there too. Last tank was $48 bucks.

I thought the cases were aluminum and chain drive.

Any problems with the 4WD models? hmmm, in my limited experience, if you get stuck, you are really stuck! I haven't gotten stuck yet - been reeeally slowed down once.

At times I do wish they had a part-time 4x4 capability (unlock the fronts in 4Lo) to help in backing up the boat in tight quarters. But I wouldn't want to get rid of the shift on the fly capability either (more important to me).
Re:Transfer case
The trucks first tank went at 16mpg calculated 17 computer, mixed city/hwy. The city part has lots of stop signs that chews away at the mpg.

On pure freeway the computer reads about 22.

HO 48re 3.73's 4x4 qc
