Tranny upgrades.......

Ok so here's the deal. I ended up buying a tq conv, billet input, billet output, shift kit, valve body install kit, governor assy, and finally a flexplate from Stephan at DTT. Obviously Stephan knows what he is talking about, but I was just wondering if anyone on here would suggest anything else? I know there are a few more billet parts for the valve body that I don't have. I found that out when I was reading around on here. Do I really need those other billet parts for the vb? Not even sure what they're called. I'm also doing this upgrade by myself with a buddy here in a few weeks. I'm also going to be taking my tranny to a tranny shop to look at the clutches and make sure nothing is burned up. I'm not a tranny guy by any means, but my friend and I are pretty mechanically inclined. We are both airframers on helicopters in the navy. Anyways, just figured I would see what all you professionals had to say about this project. Thanks in advance!

Depending on the cost, I would do new clutches. Sounds like you are really taking it far therefore why not take it all the way home.

Will definitely take the clutches into consideration, but I was told to look at them when a get the vb out to see if they're worn. If not they said don't worry about it. I'm always down for suggestions though. Anyone else have any "I wish I wouldve done that when u built ur trans" or "I wish I wouldn't have done that's?" thanks again!

From: In Oroville, Ca., same house for past 46 yrs!
Oh I would definately change the drum clutchs (forward and direct) to the red line clutches, they are thinner but tougher and you get more of them in the can so that means more surface area to hold the torque during acceleration.
Get the Kolene steels to go with them and you will get about 2 more of each in the pac.

Anyone else?

I'm going to be doing this here in a couple weeks. Just trying to tie up all the odd and end stuff. Thankfully I found a good trans guy here in san Diego that has an 05 ctd who wants my 4in exhaust. Hopefully I can get him to swing by the house for a few hours during all of the in depth work and barter with the exhaust. Really good guy, also told me if I have any Q's during the rebuild to bring the trans by the shop and he will be happy to suggest or point me in the right direction if I'm lost. Didn't think people like that existed in San Diego! Lol this place is crazy, can't wait to move back to the Midwest!!

48RE master rebuild

So I went ahead and ordered the master rebuild kit from DTT. I guess I'm definitely going to learn how to overhaul a trans! Was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions on a good transmission manual for the 48RE? I've been looking but can't really find one that seems to the ticket. I will be taking a bunch of pics, and will try to post them when I get this picture posting thing figured out.
