Trailer towing power

The other day I was talking to a guy with a CTD 600 6 spd 2500 QC and he was disapointed with it because he didnt have power when pulling trailers is this true or does he have problem or not know what he is talking about, I thought the were supposed to have lotts of pulling power. Im waiting till next year to buy one hope they get things worked out if it is true. Or mabey I should start looking for an older one.

I have an 03 SO w/ EZ box so I should be around the same power level as a new 600, or even a little better. This past weekend I pulled an 11-12000lb trailer with no problems. It was quite a bit of weight and starting out from a stop she was kind of slow but once it was moving it was no problem. The only problem I had was that my trans shifts a little quickly so I had to shift manually most of the time. Of course my dealership seems to feel that the trans shifts perfectly so I'm going through the motions with them now on getting it fixed............

Maybe your friend has too high of expectations for what a truck can handle. Just because a truck can pull a lot of weight, doesn't mean that it's going to be able to pull it without any straining. There are plenty of guys here pulling 20-30000 lb trailers.....

I don't know yet, but I'll be towing my 30' 5-er on a 1000 mile trip next Friday. I'll report back then and let you know how it does. I'm looking forward to it, but I think mostly to see how this 6-speed tranny does.

He wasnt really a friend just someone I ran into and he was saying that the 600s just didnt have any power. I have drove an 04 not 600 and it seemed to have tons of power thats why I was ??? Any way I thought I would throw this out there and see if he was just a complainer because I havent heard anyone else complain you know soom people are just never happy.

Man, I take the grapevine here, a 6% grade for about 6 miles at 50+ pulling my 8,000+ travel trailer, without going WOT. And, I only have the SO! I can't imagine that 600 not having enough power. I also don't have any problems merging on to the freeway at decent speeds with the trailer.

my $0.02

The biggest diffrence in the 600 and older HO engines I notice is more low end torque you can get up to speed a lot faster with the 600 once your up to speed there is very little diffrence in the pull of either engine

Towed 12,000 lbs. plus on a 800 mile trip this weekend and I am very happy with the power. Went up a pass that my old Banks 6.9 would have to go down to 25mph and the new 600 went 50 mph, same setup. It should even get better as I have only 2,500 miles on the truck. I have done nothing but heavy towing with my Ford for 17 years. Just been waiting for the last few years for the Cummins HO to get into Calif. It was worth the wait.

My SO Kali version does fine. I don't get below 49 mph on anything yet and that's pulling up to 13K up to Mammoth. I'm usually bumping along at about 80+ if I want. That's a stock 03 SO.

Just for your info.

I was at BD Dyno Days last Saturday (4/17/04). There were 3 stock 04's all 48RE's. One was a 600. Here are the results:

Ghost Rider (305HP) dynoed at 250.7 HP. (AirAid intake and 51" Nelson muffler)

The 600 (325 HP) dynoed at 249.8 HP. (totally stock)

The other 305 HP dynoed at 243.2. (4" DDP exhaust system)
