Sorry to say but if its broke its broke. Mine had lag real bad in the gas pedel for the past year and finally i got dead pedel for a few seconds. Went to the dealer and bought a new one, bs with them and see if you can get it at a discount price. got them to take almost 100bux off price.
I believe a replacement TPS is a Dodge-only item. I had mine replaced about a year ago at an independent repair shop, but they still had to get the part from Dodge; about $500 including labor. However, somewhere on this forum or the Dodge Cummins Diesel (www.cumminsforum.com) forum I've read several posts about a much less expensive repair that did not require replacement. Unfortunately that was several weeks ago and I can't remember much more than that. Hopefully, a search will provide results for you. Good luck.
I replaced my tps from the local dealer at $160.00. I have read that a small hole can be drilled thought the case on the inside and use electrical contact cleaner and flush the dirt out.The contacts inside the tps will get dirty and not make contact. I replaced my old unit and plan to see and try to clean the old one and see if it works after.Worth a try for what they want for a replacement.

Here is the solution for the 04 and back trucks, http://www.dodgecumminsapps.com/about.html, since the OP's is an 04.5 it may not work correctly due to changes. Then the delaer is the only recourse and they suck at pricing.
That is a TPS not an APPS. The APPS has a lot more to it and it isn't easily bypassed.

It depends on what was changed in the APPS for 04.5. If they modified the signals or wiring that would make it incompatible. The web site says will work with SOME 04's, have to check with Timbo to verify what that means.
