tore down my cp3
tore down my cp3
Pulled my pump off my truck and tore it down but still could not pinpoint the exact place of the leak, there are six o-rings around the passages, one o-ring that seals around the inside of the pump, one on the outside lip of the pump that just keeps dirt out,and a shaft seal that could leak allowing fuel to come out the weep hole, none of the o-rings or seals had any signs of wear,so i'm wondering if it might have something to do with the winter blend fuel doing funky things to the o-rings or seals and that is why these leaks become so common when the weather gets cold.photos in my gallery
Interesting. From the reading here and on the TDR it appears that the leaks appear during the winter months and mainly up north. Wonder if adding a little ND30w or TCW-3 to the fuel would help?

A friend of mine runs a bearing and seal store,so I'm gonna see if he can get me the o-rings and seals tommorow, the r&r of the pump is pretty easy,I did a step by step and posted it on the cumminsforum.there is no keyway or timing to worry about, the rebuild is very easy its just a matter of getting the parts.
rich2500,
I read your post over there, good evalaution of what maybe going on with the CP3. I like the fact that you broke it down with pictures also for those of us who just learned what a CP3 is. I'll have to set up an appointment at my dealer to have it looked at. Until then, I will be holding off installing the tank vent mod. I dont need them saying " your unauthorized modification to the fuel tank caused the CP3 failure"

I travel from Florida to the cold winter wasteland near the border. My truck has a diesel smell (no big leak but gotta be leaking somewhere) in the cold but not when I am in Florida. I also get much better fuel economy in Florida. So the winter blend fuel idea might have something to do with it.
