No improvement here either. Like the others, it is to keep stuff dry and otherwise protect the contents of the bed.

fuel mileage

I read on this site that tail gate off gets the best mileage.

Maybe a .5 MPG increase not much though. But it does eliminate the wind buffeting and noise from the backend.
I bought mine to enclose the back and keep sticky fingers off my stuff.
