Toasted a U Joint
Toasted a U Joint
Havent driven the truck in 2 weeks. so i go to a dump run, slow down to stop and the whole truck is shaking like mad. It isnt engine related(tach is steady and smooth), doesnt matter if it is in any gear or neutral.
so i crawl under and the center ujoint is hot as can be with grease slung on the fuel tank heat shield. luckily the autoparts store has 3 in stock for $30 each with greasable cap. the center and rear joints are the same p/n. so i am doing both while there.
i jacked it up and put it in 2nd to roll the drivetrain, the carrier bearing is wobbling all over. the rubber isnt torn or damaged, so i am thinking that the seized center joing it tossing it about.
i dont have a press anymore so was going to use the c clamp/hammer method to replace them. you guys have any luck changing them that way?

come to find out that all three ujoints on the rear shaft are the same. if dc cant put a decent serviceable joint in there, at least they made them the same for parts runs.
took an hour to change them. the center was completely seized. the bearings were powder.
