TIRES?? Load Range E..
Wow!
So much for a warm and fuzzy feeling about the BFG's. To each his own I guess. I got 60k out of the Michelin LTX A/S and had not had any problems with them. Used maily on the street and gravel roads here in Texas. Only time and miles will tell about the BFG's. As far as the "E" rating, I was told that it has more to do with the number of plys than anything else. I am not a tire expert so take that for what it's worth.
As for me, my personal experience is that I can't say anything bad about the Michelin LTX A/S tires. They served me well. Hope the BFG's are as good.

In my '99 I got 125,000 miles on the original Michelin LTX M&S. They were fair at best off road, but most of my driving is on the hard stuff anyway. I replaced those Michelins with Cooper Discoverer AT's and gave that truck to my Dad. Dad now has 25,000 on those tires. They are great off road but do not track as well on the dry pavement. It's all give and take with tires. A good road tire sucks off road and vise versa. Even the ones that do both well are a compromise to some extent.
majordad,
for what it looks like you will use it for the Michelin LTX that came on a lot of these trucks is one worth considering. It has a e rating and can handle a heck of a load, lasts forever, and has great street manners. I would still be running them right now if I wasnt off road almost every day. They dont throw rocks and are pretty good in the rain and snow if I remember right. (pretty much a street tire)
Good Luck

I have a 01 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 Diesel Extra Cab and I have tried several different tires all beeing load range E, the last were Firestone Transforce AT's 305/70/R16 they were load range E only got 32000 miles out of them. Most recent put the BFG's AT KO's 285/75/R16 load range D and they are rated at 3307 lbs. I pull a 31 1/2 ft. Toy Hauler with an Ultra Classic Limmited in it and at times 100 gal. of fresh watter in the holding tank and I have no complaints at all with the load range D's for my use.
