Tire inflation question

I recently purchased 285/75/16 BF Goodrich AT's for my 2001 3/4 ton truck with the long bed (4x4). The max inflation of these tires is 65psi. I am trying to figure out the correct air pressure to to use for daily travel. If I air em up to 65, the truck bounces all over the place. Can anyone with the same tires provide any advice? (Please keep in mind that I do not have access to a weigh station so I can't weigh the truck one wheel at a time for proper numbers).
Thanx in advance...

Re:Tire inflation question

Sounds like you have Load Range D Tires if 65# max. Run 50# front & 45# rear when empty. With Load Range D Tires your truck is no longer rated a 3/4 ton, it is now a 1/2 ton for loads you can haul.

Re:Tire inflation question

I disagree the rating on the tire is D which is 8 ply not 10 ply, but the weight the tire is able to carry is determined on the amout of cooling a tire can do. Therefore the more air (bigger the tire) volume the more weight it can handle. Compared to stock tires the BFG's can handle around 50 lbs less a tire.

Re:Tire inflation question

Actually, these tires can hold 3385 lbs. This is more than the E load tires.

Re:Tire inflation question

Load ration not only has to do with weight that can be carried, it also has to do with stiffness of the sidewall. I had a tire dealer install the wrong load range on a previous truck. Going around curves it squirmed, terrible handling. Fortunately it was at a time when I wasn't towing or carring any significant loads. I discovered their mistake and returned to the dealer. The manager of the store did everything but get down on his knees with apologies. He said that If I would have been in an accident they could have been responsible as they installed the incorrect load rating was on my truck which severely degraded the handling and roadability..

They were our of stock for the correct tire. He telephoned around until he found the correct tire at a competitor that could install them that day and arranged for me to take my truck immediately. Didn't cost me one cent for the correct tires.
