Just curious if any of you with the "ticking" are using 2stroke in your fuel?

My cousins 04 developed same tick recently. 2 dodge dealers in sa tx could not find anything wrong. He decided to put in some synthetic oil & found the filter a little loose. The oil level was a little low, but not below the add mark. Not sure what it was but it went away after the oil change.

Mine started after installing the Quadzilla Monitor with the fuel sending unit. I have removed it once to see if it was the cause and the noise was the same.
The truck was fine. I installed the monitor with feul sending unit and made a couple of har passes. The noise was there after these events but not before.
The noise sounds mechanical like a tapping lifter or a rocker arm loose.

This is the same with mine.

Sounds like a high pitched rocker arm noise, but in a faster motion. The only thing I haven't done yet is 180 the drivegears in the injection pump. Sounds crazy I know, but that is the only thing that makes sense. I started a thread about it... Knock, "injection pump timing" One guy chimed in and reiterated what a mechanic explained to me. I guess the drive gear is a liitle off creating backlash, thus causing this noise. Quite embarrasing, really. He said it won't hurt it, but i'm sick of hearing it. Not many dealerships have heard about it, just like many other things that Dodge is oblivious to. I set my valvelash a couple days ago... no change. Just remember , 07 5.9's are .010 int. / .026 exh. ... I'm gonna fix as soon as I find someone who has done it before.

I'll bet a C-note this will help most of us... I've heard this has become a problem in quite a few trucks.

Mine started doing it after the 3k mod. I thought it was a exhaust leak also. Kinda pisses me off. Hope it doent harm anything.
Its all through the rpm range also. mostly loudest at idle.

I had the ticking until I started using 2 stroke oil. Runs very quite now.

Mine has done it since day one. I used to use ps/mmo, until that article freaked me out too. I've been going straight fuel for 4 or 5 tanks now, and it's definitely louder. I'm going to try 2-stroke on the next tank. I'm at 66K, fwiw.

I SEE YOURS DONE IT AFTER THE VALVES WERE SET TOO, DOES IT DO IT ALL THE TIME OR JUST UNTIL IT WARMS UP LIKE MINE?

it definately gets a little louder after warming up... noise has been there since day one also. 3 months and 44,000 miles I get 22 mpg empty, 12-14 towing... can't gripe.

I adjusted the lash to try and eliminate the noise, no change. i'm gonna get the inj. pump fixed... i'll let ya know

I put a quart of 2-cycle Valvoline in the last tank I filled up this weekend. The ticking was gone when I came back out of the store to pay for the fuel. I'm amazed how much the oil quieted the motor down. I think I may try it for a while to see how it does relative to MPG.

Mine started doing the same thing and this morning I looked under the hood and the clamp that holds the fuel line was making the ticking noise

Ticking noise on cold idle...

This problem was reported by someone here and said the fix was to tighten one of the blue clamps on the fuel lines to the injectors. His dealer found the problem and I think he said it was fairly common.

That is the same piece that was loose on mine I thought I had a injector go bad but it was just that piece and the vibration through the fuel lines made it sound like an injector or a valve
