This was taken off another site FAQ,
The truck monitors it's coolant temperature and ambient temperature, and probably some other factors as well. If the engine is too cold, it will increase the idle speed to 1,000 as long as the truck is in park (or neutral) and your foot isn't on the brake. It will also drop out of high idle as needed. You can press the brake or shift into gear to get it to cancel high idle. If an exhaust brake is hooked to the ECM properly, it will also cycle the exhaust brake on and off to warm up faster

No...that's not what I'm talking about. This one has nothing to do with cold weather. It hasn't been cold since I bought the truck.

Hoss, could be a faulty sensor. Mine idles at 750 RPM steady whether it has been running a while or not. The only variance is when the A/C compressor kicks on or off, and the control module compensates very quickly for that, bringing it back to 750 RPM.
