Are there problems with the 2006?

I'm new to your site. Just sold a GMC with the Duramax. I got tired of waiting for the injectors to go bad (not if, but when). I am wondering what kind of problems the Cummins has had. Are they having problems with lift pumps, injectors (How long does it take to replace a set of 6?), electronics, or the transmission? I don't care too much about the little stuff, but are there any major problems? I'm looking at a 2006 2500 with the Cummins.

my 06 has been totally trouble free, and the cummins is a very easy engine to repair, you can change all the injectors in a hour or so not like the v-8s, this is my 4th cummins and wouldnt have anything else, had a powerjoke also.

There's been a few reported problems with various issues. A few have had injector problems. Some complain the 6spd G56 tranny is geared too low.

That being said I had my injectors modified at around 4k. I love the G56 when towing. When empty it feels like I need another gear. Remember when searching here or other forums you're more likely to find the few with problems, not the majority with no problems.

Both engines Duramax and Cummins now run the Bosch high pressure injectors. Both will be subject to the same type of problems. Early D'maxes 2001-2003 had internal injectors which were harder to work on. 2004 and newer D'maxes were equipped with external injectors ( removal of valve cover not needed) and are faster and easier to service. Later in 2005 D'maxes went with a new designed double pleated fuel filter which is rated at 2 micron. Injector problems now are not really being discussed over at the Duramax diesel forum so I would assume they have a better handle on it.
