There is a 5spd. auto coming!!

Hey guy's, I just went up to Christopher Dodge yesterday and found out that there is a 5 spd automatic coming, it is called the Lockup 545RFE. They actually have it listed in there new book, but can't be ordered until around the 1st of the year they think. He also had listed a Lockup 48KE which I am assuming is a 4spd auto. This is great news, because everything I have read about the new Ford Torqueshift tranney is incredible and probably would have been wooping up on our beloved Dodges. If I get anymore info I will be sure to post it. The guy I was talking to at the dealership seem to actually know what he was talking about unlike the other 99% of salesmen, and he showed me those tranney model numbers in his factory book so it is most likely some credible info.

Well my freind he only half knew what he was talking about. The 545rfe is only available behind the 4.7litre gas v-8, and behind the 5.7 litre Hemi. However the "48RE" as it is known is going to be the only tranny available behind the HO engine as far as auto's go.

This was found on Allpar. Not for the Cummins

Dakota:
The 545RFE five-speed automatic is finally available with the 4.7, for better passing acceleration and an overall superior driving experience. It's optional on the Sport, Sport Plus, SLT, and SLT Plus. The 2.5 four-cylinder AMC engine is finally gone. It was ahead of its time but the Dakota's pretty heavy for a four-cylinder.
[flash=200, 200]http://New 4 Speed Transmission[/flash]
gentlemen... You need to understand who at DC is tight with whom! Roger Penske owns Allison Transmissions. RP 7 years ago got Mercedes to give his racing team the mercedes racing engines and he wrote the rest of the story at Indy! Mercedes Trucks uses Allison transmissions in Europe! Mercedes owns Freightliner trucks and also uses Allison transmissions in their trucks! DC is offering a 4 speed auto transmision that uses Allison technology! Sorry to say... it is only a 4 speed! The good thing is... hello HO and a great transmission. According to my friend who owns a Dodge dealershipand the Ddge rep. you can order the transmission with the HO on Jan. 1, 2003!
The Ford with their trans. sounds good, but ww know who has the best engine! I just hope that the new transmission will be as good! I guess patience is truely a virtue! ;D

Re:There is a 5spd. auto coming!!

Sooooo, is all this really a good thing for Dodge? ???
From all I have heard, while the 5 speed Allison is nice, it definitely is not bullet proof. Lots of little problems. And, the Ford unit is supposed to outshine it from initial testing.

So, how does that stack up for us? Maybe the 5 speed Allison would be better than what we have had, but maybe MB can come with something better. For me, I love my six speed. Of course, I bought it to drag with it - - drag my fiver, not a Ferd or Cheby. I don't need to prove to them mine is better and I all ready know. ;D ;D ;D

Bob

Re:There is a 5spd. auto coming!!

I agree with Luke on that one. I would bet that the German guys have more input about what the transmission is made of now days. It's also sad to see what some of these dealers will say. Many of them are great, but so many of them just plain suck as well.

I'm really ashamed to be in the same profession with some of the "dealers". Where do they come up with this stuff ???
