Test Drive. 6spd HO Dually.

Well I finally broke down and took one for a spin.
The truck handled well, smooth and comfortable.
I Would have been a lot more impressed with it if my truck was a stock truck.
I just cannot handle going back to a manuel trans after having an auto with the DTT upgrades.
I will say it makes me really appreciate my truck and I feel the money I have put in it was well spent, and there's been a lot of it.
Don't get me wrong I think it is a great truck and Dodge has made some great Improvements, but I just won't be running out to buy one just yet, maybe next year when the new Auto comes out.

Did it seem much wider than your truck, without training wheels?

I would be very worried about ripping off the fenders if I drove one.

It took me a while to get used to the width of my 2500, compared to the Tacoma I had driven for 6 years.

Especially with the narrow lanes on I-215.

Many times my back tire hit the curb making right turns, felt like I needed one of those signs on Semi's.

I think the length would take some getting use to as well, haven't had an 8 foot bed for 15 years.

phox

Hey Phox - I hear ya about the lanes on I-215. When I drove it with my Excursion, it felt like I took up two lanes.

Note: For those of you not familiar with Utah - "Gateway to Nevada" - they took three standard lanes on I-215 and made them into four within the same width. So, they're pretty narrow.

Best to y'all
Bill

I think the "widening" was only on the west loop.

Another thing I love about it is when I'm riding the motorcycle with the seams meandering back and forth inside the lanes, instead of under the stripes as they used to be.

It was horrible under I-15 during the construction, potholes everywhere along the seams.

I've seen a number of smaller cars with nice 2 inch square dents in the middle of their hoods.
Kinda the exact shape and size of a reciever hitch. :

phox

Phox you really don't notice the extras till you look in the side mirrors and see the fenders back there. The extra lenght you don't really notice either. You should go drive one.

You are right on the extra length. You do not feel it because it turns so sharp. And, the baby seems to hold straighter and respond quicker to the wheel. The ride is also smoother and the whole body seems tighter. That IS seems to be working. Hopefully they have solved the wander problems.

Bob

The lanes on 215 in SLC are narrow, I lived there 5 years, and that I-15 constuction project bought me two 3500's. Used one while I was there and bought a new to get gone from there. No offense, just not my kind of place. You'll get used to the hips, keep the mirrors out, if they clear the hips clear.

Wish I could find one to test drive! No one in Central Florida has on yet. Lots of long bed 3500's and 2500's. Lots of short bed also. Can't figure out want a short bed does ?

Dave
