Temperature Up
Temperature Up
My truck just turned 100060 miles. 2006 one ton. Tonight sitting in line at McDee's, a real long line due to the ice storm here knocking out power for everyone, the heat went away. Finally, after sitting idling for about 30-45 min on line, we drove off and the "Check Gages" light went on.
The water temp gauge was almost pegged, then went down them up again while I was driving home. Never really came off hot.
Is this indicative of needing a thermostat? Or was I just idling too long. Would I need to turn the truck off in something like a long line?

I'm in South Carolina, about 35 to 40 degrees. Did not hear the fan but the engine was different sounding and tranny shifting kind of strange. Temp went up them down. But in that high range. Beyond the final bar to red.
Even when driving down the road , temp stayed up.

Spooler,
I guess you are referring to the rubber hose on the passenger side of the block, behind the turbo? It's very possible given the truck is an 06. There, you will find a short red hose with foil over it. The hose clamps are known to work loose and will require tightening. That will only fix it temporarily.
The best bet is to replace the hose with the following dealer parts: 5179115-AA (Clamp)
5179114-AB (Hose). The new hose has a smaller inside diameter than the old hose. The clamps are spring loaded to apply constant pressure under hot and cold conditions.

Thank you for the advice. Yes, the range was at the top but I needed to get home, about two miles away. Yes, it was heating up, yes I drove home. The alternative was walking. Right now, there's no power here, no services, even the hospital must be on generator power.
All that to say, the Augusta/Columbia area of GA/SC was unprepared for this ice storm. So getting a tow would have been difficult possible. Made it home, will look at the issue now.

I just experienced this last night and I believe I have a failed water pump. No heat inside and the engine came up rather fast to running temp and then went a few needles higher then normal on the temp gauge. Got home and shut it off and have some drips under the water pump. I think it happened about 5 days ago but didn't put it all together until last night. Have noticed the belt squeeling usually at start up only and the other day it was really cold out (5 degrees) and I had no heat and no temp and then 2 blocks later the engine was up to temp and blowing heat which I thought was odd. Ordered everything today and will swap it out tomorrow.

Where at in SC? I'm in Blythwood/Columbia, I might be able to help a brother out.
Like mentioned before, I'd check the coolant and hoses, open the radiator up too, don't just trust the bottle.
No heat could be a water pump issue. They don't last forever, I had to replace mine around 60k miles.
