TC vs Programmer?

hey, ive got an 03 HO 48re on 46" tires. everything is stock except the susp. and tires. i'm not lookin to race this thing or anything but i would like it to be somewhat fast for a BIG truck.

I've had these tires on the truck for about a yr and i'm not sure, but it feels the tranny may not be delivering all the power it used to when i first put the big tires on. it still pulls but its seems it takes a little longer...i dunno.

will replacing just the TC to a triple disc low stall (maybe 800 stall???)with a valve body make a huge diff? or should i just get a programer that has all the defuelling features on it? if i get a tc i will eventually add a programer.

i might just need to get gears instead? 4.56's?

Might!!!! That would be the first thing I would do. Have you ever figured out what you changed your final drive ratio to? I am surprised the tranny has lasted this long.

yea with big tires like that its just like pulling a load not only that it messes up the drive angles so things wear out earlier. i would recomend beefing up the tranny. try a valve body and see if that helps. that will raise the line pressure in the tranny. if not happy with that upgrade the tc too.

Gears 1st. At least 4:88's but you can figure that out better. Then the TC/VB but don't expect it to last forever 'cause you already have 100K mi. on the tranny. I think you would be better off in the long run w/ a built tranny. The gears will make a suprisingly big difference but will still feel slower than stock 'cause you have 250 lbs. of meat @ the end of each axle. That's where the programer comes in. That's a whole 'nother story. Just my $.02. HTH!

Mikcon has got some 4.56s in the classifieds-I bought a programmer from him and did not have any problems whatsoever-has his phone # listed too if you have any questions for him, but that would be my first course of action with tires that size, followed by tranny upgrades, then programmer. If you start with the programmer first, you are going to be breaking things pretty quickly trying to rotate that much mass under more power-also fill out your sig when you have time and we can give you more educated answers to any further questions you might have-and nice looking truck!
